Hydrowick FAQ's
How deep does the Hydrowick Drainage element get installed?
Anywhere from 6-12 inches depending on soil conditions. Greens it will be 10.5 inches plus to not interfere with cup cutters.
What is a Hydrowick “Header”?
A Hydrowick Header is where the Hydrowick element is going to be tied in. The Hydrowick element takes the water from A-B and the “header” takes it from B-C. This can be an existing drainage tile or catch basin. In some instances where we are installing Hydrowick there is no existing drainage tile, this means that we will have to install a 4-6” solid tile to then connect to existing drainage systems.
What is the Hydrowick Element made up of?
Hydrowick is made from a heat-treated fiberglass element and stainless-steel mesh, ensuring durability, resistance to wear, and long-term performance in various soil conditions.
Where can the Hydrowick be installed?
Hydrowick can be installed on greens, fairways, tee decks, and approaches.
How is Hydrowick installed?
Hydrowick is installed using the Patented Sandbander technique, which involves placing the Hydrowick element underground, backfilling with dry sand, and rolling the seam to create a smooth surface. This method ensures minimal disruption, and surfaces can be playable within 24 hours post-installation
How does Hydrowick compare to traditional French drains?

- Faster Drainage: Hydrowick’s capillary and siphoning action moves water more efficiently.
- Less Invasive Installation: Requires minimal excavation compared to French drains.
- Lower Cost: Reduces installation labor and material costs.
- Maintenance-Free: Unlike French drains, Hydrowick does not require additional geotextile fabric and is resistant to clogging by fine soil particles.
Does Hydrowick require ongoing maintenance?
No, Hydrowick is designed to be a maintenance-free drainage system. Its durable construction and resistance to clogging mean it continues to perform effectively without the need for regular upkeep.
Can Hydrowick improve turf health?
