Streamsong Red Added to 2020 Greens Enhancement Project
STREAMSONG, FLORIDA (April 2, 2020) – Streamsong Resort announced today its plans to add Streamsong Red to the re-grassing project beginning early April 2020. The course will join Streamsong Blue in receiving a revolutionary new Ultradwarf Bermudagrass known as Mach 1. Both courses plan to debut their new greens in October of this year
The re-grassing project was initially slated to occur in phases, with Streamsong Blue beginning in April and grow-in extending through September, followed by Streamsong Red in 2021. Given the uncertainties and restrictions associated with COVID-19, the Streamsong management team has decided to use this time as effectively as possible and complete both re-grassing projects at once ensuring all three nationally-ranked courses are available for play beginning fall 2020.
During the re-grassing project, Gill Hanse’s Streamsong Black, named Golf Digest’s 2018 Best New Course in North America, along with The Roundabout and The Gauntlet will remain open to the public play pending any local, state or CDC mandates. From April 2 to Sept. 27, 2020, Florida Residents can play Streamsong Black for $89 per round walking or experience the Resort’s popular summer “Stay & Play 18” on Streamsong Black complete with overnight accommodations at Streamsong’s Lakeside lodge.
“During this time, we feel strongly that it is in the best interest of the Resort to move forward with the re-grassing of both the Streamsong Blue and Streamsong Red courses while encouraging guests to continue enjoying Streamsong Black,” said Richard Mogensen, general manager of Streamsong Resort. “When we all emerge from this unfortunate situation, golfers from around the world will be anxious to return to the sport and the destination they love. We want to be there for our golf community the best that we can by ensuring both courses are back, ready and better than ever.”
Once complete, Streamsong will be the first golf destination in the world to showcase Mach 1 on two 18-hole layouts. Mach 1 has been recognized as one of the cleanest and purest turfs in the industry with a super fine texture and smoothness that creates a high-quality putting surface. Developed by renowned golf course superintendent Rodney Lingle and distributed by Modern Turf, Mach 1 has been proven through testing to provide smoother ball roll, more uniformed growth patterns in warm weather climates and increased stability and longevity. It is a genetically strong, high-end performing turfgrass that is both heat and drought tolerant, a perfect match for Streamsong’s seasonal environment and sustainability commitment.
“The biggest part of what makes Streamsong so unique and keeps players coming back for more is the evolving environment in which our courses were created, something unlike anything else in the state of Florida,” said Rusty Mercer, director of agronomy at Streamsong Resort. “After thorough research, we feel confident that the high-quality performance and technology of Mach 1 is the ideal match for our sand-based courses, and the best option to meet our goal of firm, fast conditions.”
“Even during these unprecedented times, Streamsong is dedicated to continuous growth and improvement,” said Ben Pratt, senior vice president of corporate public affairs at The Mosaic Company (owners of Streamsong Resort). “Streamsong is a special place, and the experience of our guests is unmatched. We have the opportunity to make some excellent changes over the next few months, and we could not be more excited for what’s to come.”
Streamsong is home to Florida’s highest rated golf collection and the only destination in the world to experience three distinct golf courses designed by four legendary architects.
